Played Dunwoodie today and found it to be in great shape, fairways and greens are well taken care of and beautiful. It's a challenging course due to the fairways being pretty straight, hilly and just enough bunkers (sand). If you slice or hook you'll be in a little trouble. Great course for beginners or average players like myself. The course also offers putting, chipping green and a nice driving range. If you're looking for a local course in lower Westchester play Dunwoodie you won't be disappointed and there's a nice view of Manhattan on the 18th hole. In addition it's a great place to host an event or party with a nice banquet room and outside patio. I base my reviews on convenience of location and price.
May 17, 2023-played a round today and enjoyed the condition of the course and the friendly staff.
My sons and I came to play today. They are beginners and so I was very conscious of the need to not incommode other faster and more experienced golfers.
Despite my making this resolve clear, the staff chose to single out and humiliate my son when he was having difficulty on the first hole. He was extremely upset, as was I. We were then approached by another member of the staff to make sure we would be mindful of pace of play.
I then spent the rest of our time there timing other foursomes as they played and ensuring that we always finished every hole faster than the average group. We were far from the slowest group, as we were attempting to be mindful of others. Indeed, my sons didn’t hit far, but they stayed near the fairway, while most of the ”mature” golfers I witnessed spent a lot of time firing balls into the deep woods, which didn’t exactly hurry the pace of of play.
Nonetheless, I’m not sure whether because of our youth (we had a lot fewer grey hairs than the average golfer; and the grey hair set, I have to say, seemed to be rather lacking in patience!), but we were the ones spoken to when someone wished to play through.
After that, we left, having played just 5 holes, and having spent as much time waiting for other groups to play as we spent playing ourselves.
Dunwoodie, senior golfers — do you want your sport to die? Do manners and graciousness not have a place on the golf course?
I feel like a golf course should make a small amount of effort to be inviting to young golfers who potentially could be coming for the next 70 years, rather than being anxious only to avoid offending the impatient elderly. The expected value of the former is simply orders of magnitude higher, and as much as I adhere to the belief that we should honor and respect our elders, that does not mean we have to be unpleasant to the young at the same time!
Great public course, one ot the best within easy driving distance of Manhattan. Good turf mat driving range, nice chipping and putting area. Fairways and green in excellent condition. Very friendly staff. Pace of play can be a little slow in the afternoon but still finished on a Thursday afternoon in 4.75 hours
Public Golf Course 18 holes par 70 for Man. Short 5800 Black Tee but good layout. Greens condition is good, fastest one as public course. Couple holes need to be caution; tee box and car path close to other green.
Got Driving Range, Chipping area and putting green.
Nice course lots of hills especially on the front, first 5 hole narrow, 6th hole more open and score able opportunities. Greens very good and running good speed.
The course has gone through some upgrades over the years and is being maintained better and better. It is rapidly becoming one of the top Westchester County courses to enjoy on a beautiful day! There is a gorgeous view of the NYC skyline on a clear day, a nice little bonus.
Yowsers! This course is not for the faint of heart. Felt like wherever I was at after teeing off, one would most likely have some sort of uneven lie heading towards the green on basically all the holes... so, feel like ya need a challenge? Then this is the course.
Course conditions were fine. As expected, tee boxes are beaten up. Fairways are ok. Putting greens were good, so, the overall feel for the course was a positive one!
(Forgot to mentioned, motorized golf carts are in good working condition, with a gps screen provided... nice touch!).
I don't often give out five stars to any of the public courses simply because the cannot compete with high end private courses. But It's a wonderful facility with a driving range, large putting green, and a small chipping area. The course is well maintained and the staff is courteous. I highly recommend this course. They also have awesome BEC Sandwiches!
